Factors to consider when replacing gate valves with butterfly valves

In recent years, the gate valve as a tool to control the amount of water and the direction of water flow, its form has also changed. In the past, the commonly used dual-use flashlight gate valve was gradually replaced by dual-use flashlight butterfly valves. The advantages of butterfly valves are small size, light weight, easy installation, and small resistance coefficient. Although the traditional gate valve is not easy to leak water, it is large; especially the gate valve with a large pipe diameter is large and heavy, and it is inconvenient to install and disassemble; more importantly, due to the large volume, the area of the pump room increases and the project cost increases .

Butterfly valves can be divided into offset plate type, vertical plate type, inclined plate type and lever type according to the structure. According to the sealing form, it can be divided into two types: relatively sealed type and hard sealed type. The soft seal type generally uses a rubber ring seal, and the hard seal type generally uses a metal ring seal.

The installation and maintenance of butterfly valve should pay attention to the following matters:

1. During installation, the valve disc should be stopped in the closed position.

2. The opening position should be determined according to the rotation angle of the butterfly plate.

3. For the butterfly valve with bypass valve, the bypass valve should be opened before opening.

4. The installation should be carried out according to the installation instructions of the manufacturer. The heavy butterfly valve should be installed with a firm foundation.
